Reuse, refine, create is a simple order of operations for AI media: before generating something new, reuse what you already have, then refine what exists, and generate only what's genuinely missing. It's faster, more consistent, and spends less AI compute.
Why order matters
Generation is powerful but not free — of time, of consistency, or of credits. An asset you already have is instant and on-brand. Refining an existing asset is usually cheaper and more predictable than starting over.
The three moves
| Move | When to use it | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Reuse | A suitable asset already exists | Instant, consistent, no new compute |
| Refine | A close asset needs adjustment | Cheaper and more predictable than regenerating |
| Create | Nothing suitable exists | Fill the genuine gap |
