Midways feature status: Image generation, qualified video generation, Ask Midways and the manual editor are launching with V1; advanced assisted editing is in development. Midways plans are not announced. Competitor prices, model access and commercial terms in this dated editorial comparison require revalidation.
This page exists to help you understand how AI creative pricing and generative-credit models actually work in practice — real, dated numbers from both companies, not a ranking or a claim that either product is cheaper or better.
Short answer: Adobe Firefly is a commercially-safe generative AI suite — images, video, audio and vectors — deeply integrated with Photoshop, Premiere and the wider Creative Cloud ecosystem. Midways is a timeline-first editor with AI creation built in, independent of any other creative suite. If you already live in Creative Cloud and want generative tools inside it, Firefly fits naturally; if you want a standalone editor with AI creation and a real timeline, Midways is built for that.
What is Adobe Firefly?
Adobe Firefly is a generative AI creative space. Per Adobe's own product page (reviewed September 2026), it creates images, video, audio and vector graphics from text prompts, using Adobe's own commercially-safe models trained on licensed/public-domain content plus partner models from Google, OpenAI, ElevenLabs, Luma AI, Runway and others. It integrates directly with Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Lightroom and Adobe Express, and bills usage through monthly "generative credits" shared across Creative Cloud apps.
What is Midways?
Midways is developing an assisted video editing workspace: a real multi-track timeline with AI image and video creation built in. It is a standalone product, not tied to a wider creative-suite subscription. Manual editing doesn't spend AI credits; credits are for AI compute.
How they differ
| Dimension | Adobe Firefly | Midways |
|---|---|---|
| Core emphasis | Generative suite inside Creative Cloud | Standalone timeline-first editor |
| Creative Cloud integration | Deep (Photoshop, Premiere, Express) | Not applicable — standalone |
| Manual timeline editing | Via Premiere/Express, separate apps | Launching with V1 |
| Agentic "propose then review" | Not its model | In development |
| Image generation | Available | Launching with V1 |
| Video generation | Available | Launching with V1 |
| Commercially-safe model training | Adobe states licensed/public-domain training | Not a comparable published claim |
| Pricing model | Creative Cloud / Firefly subscription + generative credits | Terms pending approval |
Creation
Both create images and video from prompts. Firefly's differentiator per Adobe is commercially-safe training data and Content Credentials on every output; Midways treats generated media as an input to a project you keep editing on a timeline.
Editing and manual control
Midways centers a precise multi-track timeline in one app. Firefly's editing depth comes from handing off into other Adobe apps (Photoshop, Premiere, Express) rather than a built-in timeline of its own.
Agentic workflow
Firefly is a generation and editing-tools suite, not an agent that proposes edits to a whole project. Midways' agentic model — describe intent, Midways proposes, you review — is Building, not yet fully operational.
Pricing and credits
Midways plans, credit allowances and purchase terms are pending approval. Competitor prices and commercial terms on this page require revalidation before a purchase decision.
