Status: Soon. The timeline controls are implemented; the public editor release is pending.
Build a sequence
- Add a video or image from the media library. Drag it to a timeline layer. Move the playhead by clicking the ruler or scrubbing the timecode; use Play timeline to preview.
- Drag a clip to change its start time or layer. Use timeline zoom when a cut is too small to see. Turn on Snapping in Settings to align edges; holding Alt during a drag suppresses snapping.
- Shorten a clip by dragging a trim handle, or select it and use Trim start to playhead or Trim end to playhead from its actions. These keep the source outside the selected range available for later adjustment.
- Put the playhead inside a selected clip and choose Split at playhead (or press S). The resulting pieces can move independently. A split needs room on each side of the playhead.
- Select an item and use Delete selected clips. Turn on Toggle ripple delete first when you want a clear selected time range to close; otherwise a gap can remain. Use Close gap at playhead on a gap. Undo and Redo are on the timeline toolbar.
Use the precise edit commands
The clip action bar offers Ripple trim start to playhead and Ripple trim end to playhead when timing should pull later material with the trim. For a video, Slip source backward 0.1s and Slip source forward 0.1s change which source frames play without moving the timeline clip. Slide clip earlier 0.1s and Slide clip later 0.1s move its timeline position. Roll edit point earlier 0.1s or later 0.1s adjusts a touching edit boundary; it can refuse when clips do not meet. Review the canvas and neighboring edits after each move.
Navigate efficiently
When the timeline has focus, M adds a marker; [ and ] jump between markers; comma and period step one frame; Shift+Backspace closes a gap. Editor-wide: Space plays or pauses, S splits, Ctrl/Cmd+Z undoes, Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y redoes, and bare =, - and 0 zoom in, out and fit. Shortcuts do not fire while typing in a text field.
Why will a clip not move or trim?
Check whether its layer or track is locked, the timeline limit is reached, or the requested trim leaves less than a usable fragment. See Layers and groups.
Does ripple mode delete neighboring clips?
The toolbar explains that ripple placement moves later clips on the destination layer to make room. Ripple delete closes a clear selected range; verify the preview and undo if the result is not what you intended.
