Shape video, images and text overlays

Set canvas format, crop and transform visuals, adjust color, then time and style text in the Midways editor.

What this relates to: Professional editor: Launching with V1

Status: Soon. Customer release of the manual editor is pending. When access opens, use these controls to frame and style your selected media.

Set the frame before styling clips

  1. Select a clip, open Transform, then choose Canvas format for Reels/Shorts, YouTube or Square. Use Media scaling in Settings to switch between Fill frame and Fit entire media. Fill can crop edges; Fit can leave bars.
  2. Adjust the selected element on the canvas using the transform controls for position, size, opacity, rotation and horizontal or vertical flip. Use the crop controls when framing the source. The clip actions also provide Canvas format & resize (sequence), Rotate sequence 90° and Flip sequence horizontally; sequence actions affect the overall view.
  3. Open Effects for a selected clip. Try Looks or tune Exposure, Brightness, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Saturation and Temperature under Adjust. Compare the result against the original rather than pushing every slider.

Control motion and transitions

For video, Motion, speed & transitions opens speed, ramp and transition controls; the clip actions also offer Reverse clip and Add freeze frame where valid. For a still, use an available animation such as a slow zoom or fade. Confirm the change by playing through the edit, since a still cannot reverse like footage.

Add a readable title

Use the Text section to add a text overlay. Select its layer, enter copy in Layer text, set the start and end times, then choose type, alignment, position and opacity. Keep the title inside the safe area and preview on a phone-sized frame. A text layer can have animation settings; its clip menu offers Style, position & opacity.

Why does a visual look cropped after changing format?

Fill frame crops to the canvas shape. Choose Fit entire media when preserving the whole image matters, then inspect any bars and background.

Can I make text appear only during one shot?

Yes. Time the text layer's start and end around that shot on the timeline; use the canvas preview to confirm that it does not overlap a cut.
